Being Crafty: Making Tissue Balls

In this economy, we want to save money. However, when throwing a party, decorating for a wedding, or just because, we don't want to skimp on those decorations! Well, you can make one decoration for around $1.00 and you can choose any color you want! It is a fun DIY project and so simple, but adds that perfect touch to any gathering! What is this project you ask? Tissue Balls! (Some refer to these as a tissue pom flower). Now, if you have walked past our windows recently, you will see we've used them as a decoration because we have such long windows! I can't take credit for that window- the wonderful Mona put together that beautiful window! However, for this tutorial...I went through the steps myself (and included pictures). Mine isn't nearly as 'fluffy' as hers, but this is my first attempt! Note: You can buy the kit, but I did that for my wedding and didn't even use them and the package cost probably around $3-$4. Let's get started...

Step 1: Grab 10 sheets of tissue paper and put them together. You can do any color!

Step 2: Begin folding the paper accordion style. See photo below for what it should look like...
This is the final product after folding.
Step 3: Fold in half.
Find some fishing line, wire, etc. to tie in the middle. We used ribbon for ours.
Step 4: Tie a string (tightly) around the fold.
Use your finger in the middle of the paper while tying to get a tighter fold in the middle.
Step 5: Fan out the paper on each side of the ribbon.
Step 6: Carefully separate the sheets of tissue paper one by one, alternating sides of the ribbon.
Almost there...
The finished product! Fluff as necessary! Mine is flat on the bottom, but I could have kept fluffing around to get it to look more like a ball.

That was fun and pretty easy, huh? Here are a couple photos of our current window. Like I said, Mona's are much prettier than mine! I actually just had someone come in (while I was working on this blog) and ask if ours were for sale or just for decoration!

Note: She has a couple lying on the table to add some effect to the window.
Gorgeous, right? She made multi-color ones (center) and ones of different size!
(I apologize for not getting a photo from the outside- it is cold and rainy and impossible to get a decent picture with the lighting outside!)

What do you guys think of this project? Please let me know! How did they turn out? Any other projects worth trying?

Until next time...

Fall 2012 Trends

 Hey guys!

Trends are typically predicted multiple seasons in advance, so it is always fun to see them come to life when they finally start arriving towards the end of July! Here is a list of the trends you will see this season and some pictures to follow!

BOLD PRINTS
This ranges anywhere from funky floral prints to wild geo prints.

BLUE, BLUE, BLUE
Blue is big this season, especially paired with neutrals or black.

SPARKLES
Shiny metallics are definitely in this season, especially paired with bold colors.

EMBELLISHMENTS
Studs, sequins, tulle, oh my! We have it all this season!

POLKA DOTS
This seems to carry over from last season, but they are back for fall!

APPLIQUE
They are everywhere from pants to sleeves!

BOLD PRINTS/POLKA DOTS/APPLIQUE: This bold look from ZaZa Couture sums up everything but the sparkle this season. This cute look has the bold print, the flower applique, and polka dots! Super cute in person, too!

BLUE, BLUE, BLUE: Here we have a boy's twofer shirt by Intakt. It's navy with blue stitching and blue/cream camo on the sleeves! Can't get much more blue than this!
SPARKLES/EMBELLISHMENT/APPLIQUE:  It's hard to see, but this CachCach outfit has clear sequins sewn all over! Not to mention it has a shiny/metallic look to the leopard trim.

Now these are only 3 looks, but I can't show you everything! You have to stop in or check out our website to see the latest additions to our Fall collections!

Until next time!

Cake Mix+Canned Pumpkin=?

This blog post is going to be a tad different and not aimed at our clothing, but at our busy moms. I recently stumbled upon a pin on Pinterest that I was intrigued to try...

Pumpkin Muffins

It was featured on Sweet Verbena's blog. It is quick, simple, and best of all DELICIOUS! Now I tried this with yellow cake mix, but I've read of other variations and am really looking forward to trying this with Spice Cake with added chocolate chips. Ready for the ingredients?

1 Can of Pumpkin (15 oz)
1 Cake Mix

Yep, that's right! Only TWO ingredients! (Ignore the ingredients on the back of the cake mix box, as they do not apply to this recipe.)

Simply mix together the cake mix & the pumpkin, place in baking cups in a muffin pan, and bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes.

So delicious and great for breakfast or a quick snack! We made ours the night before and I had a quick breakfast the next day! Let me know what you think and any fun variations you can think of!

Fall is Coming...

Ah! I guess it's that time of year again! Buried under boxes of new fall merchandise...it's like Christmas for us! We pick the clothes in early Spring and don't get to see the Fall merchandise until now! It's all just too cute for words! And remember that line I told you about a few posts back? Mayoral? It's one of my favorite lines in the store and it's designed in Spain...all I can say is wait until you see it! I've gotten pieces of it, but not the collection in it's entirety. Okay...I'll upload a sneak peek of it...

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS!!
The button-up, grey cords, and suspenders are all Mayoral.

Love these girly, classic looks! All by Mayoral.

I'll update more once I get more fall in...Can't wait to see it!!
